Printing? Match the paper size
A4 measures 210 × 297 mm; US Letter measures 8.5 × 11 inches. Follow the recipient’s, printer’s, or form’s requirements rather than choosing the larger-looking preview. Their aspect ratios differ. The converter keeps the whole image, so whitespace is normal; it does not crop the image to fill the page.
For screen reading, consider Fit image
Fit image follows each image’s aspect ratio with no added converter margin. Pages can have different dimensions, which suits screenshots or photo collections but not submissions that require every page to be A4. It is not a lossless original-file mode: images are still resized and encoded as JPEG according to the quality setting.
Choose orientation and margins separately
Automatic orientation selects portrait or landscape for each image. Use Portrait if every page must be upright; wide images will shrink to fit. Choose standard, wide, or no margins. No margins does not crop images or guarantee borderless printing. Fit image ignores the paper-orientation and margin settings.
A quick decision guide
Office documents: use the requested A4 or Letter size. Screenshot collections: consider Fit image. Handwritten notes: leave wider margins. Fixed-size submissions: use one paper size and orientation. Check the exported PDF and review Actual size or Fit to page in your print dialog before printing.
